Alamo Heights is located at&nbsp;29&deg;28&prime;58&Prime;N&nbsp;98&deg;28&prime;2&Prime;W&nbsp;(29.482881, -98.467271).&nbsp;It is bordered by the following neighborhoods: Lincoln Heights to the north, Olmos Park to the west, Brackenridge Park and Fort Sam Houston to the south, and Terrell Hills to the east. All of them are districts within San Antonio except for&nbsp;Terrell Hills&nbsp;and&nbsp;Olmos Park, both independent municipalities similarly to Alamo Heights. Alamo Heights is about 3 miles (5&nbsp;km) south of the&nbsp;San Antonio International Airport&nbsp;and 5 miles (8&nbsp;km) north of downtown San Antonio, both of which are accessible via Broadway and&nbsp;U.S. 281 North.
According to the&nbsp;United States Census Bureau, Alamo Heights has a total area of 1.9 square miles (4.8&nbsp;km2), all of it land. As of the&nbsp;2000 U.S. Census, there were 7,319 people, 3,197 households, and 1,819 families residing in this city. The&nbsp;population density&nbsp;was 3,964.9 people per square mile (1,527.5/km2). There were 3,460 housing units at an average density of 1,874.4 per square mile (722.1/km2). The racial makeup of this town was 93.80%&nbsp;White, 0.56%&nbsp;African American, 0.33%&nbsp;Native American, 0.85%&nbsp;Asian, 0.01%&nbsp;Pacific Islander, 2.81% from&nbsp;other races, and 1.64% from two or more races.&nbsp;Hispanic&nbsp;or&nbsp;Latino&nbsp;of any race were 13.55% of the population.

Bexar County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,714,773, and a 2019 estimate put the population at 2,003,554. It is the 16th-most populous county in the nation and the fourth-most populated in Texas. Its county seat is San Antonio, the second-most populous city in Texas and the seventh-largest city in the United States. Bexar County is included in the San Antonio&ndash;New Braunfels, TX metropolitan statistical area. Bexar County includes Government Canyon State Natural Area in the northwestern part of the county. Bexar County was created on December 20, 1836, and encompassed almost the entire western portion of the&nbsp;Republic of Texas. This included the disputed areas of eastern New Mexico northward to Wyoming. After statehood, 128 counties were carved out of its area.
The county was named for San Antonio de B&eacute;xar, one of the 23 Mexican municipalities (administrative divisions) of Texas at the time of its independence. San Antonio de B&eacute;xar&mdash;originally&nbsp;Villa de San Fernando de B&eacute;xar&mdash;was the first civil government established by the Spanish in the&nbsp;province of Texas. Specifically, the municipality was created in 1731 when 55&nbsp;Canary Islanders&nbsp;settled near the system of&nbsp;missions&nbsp;that had been established around the source of the&nbsp;San Antonio River. The new settlement was named after the&nbsp;Presidio&nbsp;San Antonio de B&eacute;jar, the Spanish military outpost that protected the missions. The presidio, located at the&nbsp;San Pedro Springs, was founded in 1718 and named for&nbsp;Viceroy Balthasar Manuel de Z&uacute;&ntilde;iga y Guzm&aacute;n Sotomayor y Sarmiento, second son of the Duke of&nbsp;B&eacute;jar&nbsp;(a town in Spain). The modern city of San Antonio in the U.S. state of Texas also derived its name from San Antonio de B&eacute;jar.
In 2016, for the third consecutive year, Bexar County increased the appraised value of businesses and residences. Most will hence find their&nbsp;property taxes&nbsp;will increase for the year, with higher payments for some beginning as early as November 1. The latest 7.5 percent increase in valuation follows an 11 percent rise in 2015, and a 7 percent jump in 2014. The 2016 total value for all property in the county is approximately $163 billion, or $13 billion more than in 2015. County residents express dismay to Mary Kieke, the deputy chief appraiser. "People are very upset. The tax system is absolutely broken," she said.

A little over 50 years ago, the Town of Hollywood Park became official in a homeowner’s garage. The neighborhood, connected to the old San Pedro Street by a gravel road, was growing in 1955. Residents were concerned about losing the neighborhood’s autonomy to San Antonio and so a meeting was held to discuss the possibility of incorporation. It was decided that homeowners would vote to make the decision. One October Saturday in 1955, residents met in the garage of the Weinholtz home and voted on paper ballots. History was made in the garage that day and the Town of Hollywood Park was officially incorporated on December 7, 1955.
Back then the town was small but growing and seemed to be out in the middle of nowhere. The closest grocery store was the Handy Andy on San Pedro. The closest place to take the kids to dinner was the Jim’s Frontier Drive-In restaurant on San Pedro and Basse.
Hollywood Park of yesteryear was a place where young-minded individuals selected home-sites on which to build homes they intended to live in for the rest of their lives; homes built to last for generations. Among the community’s leaders of today are the children and grandchildren of those early residents. The city’s population is a cross-index of young professionals, lawyers, teachers, doctors and businesspeople.

On the edge of the Texas Hill Country, the City of Shavano Park is located in the San Antonio Metropolitan Area in northwest Bexar County, approximately 12 miles north of downtown San Antonio. Shavano Park is surrounded by the City of San Antonio to the north, east, south, and west. Generally, the City’s boundaries are Loop 1604 on the north, Huebner Road on the south, Lockhill Selma on the west and Salado Creek on the east. Bexar County is the fourth largest County in the State of Texas and San Antonio is the largest City in the County and second largest City in the State. Geographically, Shavano Park is located in the south central Texas region at the edge of the Gulf Coastal Plains.
